Welcome, #AugWritingChallenge-rs!
When the #JulyWritingChallenge began, I’m sure Kristy (@kristyace) had no idea that her freshly minted hashtag would become such a big deal for so many of us. She was taking it upon herself to keep track of everyone’s Twitter handles and their daily wordcounts, and when they didn’t check in for a few days, she’d send out a message encouraging them to come back.
As a school teacher with a knack for organization, Kristy developed a spreadsheet to help keep track of everyone. It’s pretty impressive. You may not have been keeping up with your daily participation, but she has, and now, it’s been passed on to me. It will go to Samantha Garman (@samgarman) for September, then it will go on to whoever the new challenge leader is as we move from month to month.
While the spreadsheet is fantastic — and necessary — I’ve been thinking it would also be helpful to have a master page where we can all check and see who our fellow #AugWritingChallenge-rs are, as well as everyone’s current projects.
That said, if you’ll just take a moment to comment below with your Twitter handle, along with a little bit about what you’re working on, pretty soon we’ll have a quick reference that we can all check throughout the month.
In short order, I imagine we’ll all remember what everyone else is working on, but until then, this will hopefully make it easier. 🙂
P.S. Don’t forget we also have a Facebook group. Click here to join.
Nice one, Sara! I am always curious as to what these #writingchallenge words are contributing to 🙂 My twitter handle is @MikhaeylaK. My WIP is a speculative fiction/adult dystopian story set in the future city-state of Otpor, where the population is divided by the classical element that defines them (earth, water, air or fire). The story focuses on Anaiya, a Fire Elemental who is trained as a Peacekeeper but who faces realignment to uncover a resistance movement threatening to destabilise the ordered society she lives in. #JulyWritingChallenge helped me to get to 33,000 words – looking forward to #AugustWritingChallenge adding to the word count!
Debb Bouch @ForestSkier Working on parts 1 and 2 of the Fae Wars novels. Also on numerous short stories for competitions for Needle in the Hay and others.
Hello everyone! I finished a rough draft of my YA sci-fi, CONSIDER (Book 1 of a two-book series) during the #July WritingChallenge. It’s around 70K at this point. In August, I’ll be editing that manuscript and outlining Book 2. Basically, my main character, Alexandra Lucas, goes through a family drama with holograms and an apocalypse in the backdrop. I’d tell you more about it, but it’s rather top secret.
I probably won’t be checking in every day for the #AugWritingChallenge because I have to get my classroom ready and prep for the upcoming school year, but I wish all of you the best of luck in your writing endeavors!
@kristyace
My twitter handle is @yvonneventresca. My debut YA novel, Pandemic, came out in May. My current WIP is a YA psychological thriller. I’m looking forward to making progress on it this month.
Yvonne
@ClaireClaire05 – I’m doing the second half of second draft of my first novel (is that confusing enough? haha). Target for August is to finish the entire second draft and polish up at least the first 10k. I got to know the site from Alayna 🙂
Hello, Writing Challenge peeps! I’m Tara, @TaraParay. I’m writing a book about my dad that will be essays and/or memoir (can’t tell yet). Mostly funny, somewhat sentimental. It’s an idea that’s been floating around for a while. I want to finish it this month!
Good luck to all the #AugWritingChallenge participants!
Hey guys, my name is Casey, my twitter handle is @myexplodingpen, and I’m about 34k into a YA novel about a girl who witnesses the murders of her three best friends and a diner employee. Through mixed-up flashbacks and memories the reader learns about the main character’s relationships with her friends, her short lives romance with her best friend Kate, and a thousand tiny moments that make up their senior year, right up to the murders. It’s a teen drama with murder mystery thrown in. I hope to be finished by mid-August and start editing then, so hopefully this challenge will keep me on track!
My twitter handle is @davhey12 – I’ll be working on a novella (fantasy) as well as a sci-fi comedy short this month. Great to meet you all and good luck!
Hi, I’m Lucia and I’m writing the second third of my novel this month. I wrote the first part for Camp NaNoWriMo last month.
Good luck to everyone 🙂
@tguy80 – I’m travelling for most of August, so this is going to be a month of travel blog entries. Minimum 500 per.
@suziryan I wrote 26,000 words during Camp NaNo this year and I want to keep adding to my YA contemporary romance story about homeless boy.
My WIP is about an American family on their annual summer vacation. Their destination is the place voted the friendliest city in America for seven years running. What seems like a typically amusing, annoying, forced effort to spend time together turns into a harrowing experience when an unexpected event forces the family, the city, and the nation to examine their assumptions about each other, violence, mental illness and a news media more focused on headlines and ratings than providing accurate information.

Hello! I’m A.K., I write science fiction and fantasy (mainly), often with a QUILTBAG protagonist. I’m addicted to tea and Twitter — find me there @AK_Lindsay. I wrote a book in July and plan on taking the first ten days of August to adhere to a fast-paced editing regimen while writing 500 words/day of short fiction throughout the month. I also plan on (privately) trying the 3-day novel challenge at the end of the month just to see if I can do it.
Good luck to everyone with your goals this month!
Hi, I’m Julz. @XOfficialJulzX on Twitter. My goal for the month is to finish editing the very-rough draft of my Psychological Thriller, as well as pen the first 10K of my Zombie Dystopian novel.
Good luck to everyone participating in #AugWritingChallenge, and may the words be ever in your favor.
Also, many thanks to the creators of the Writing Challenge. I know it will be a huge help in keeping me on track!
Hi guys!! I’ll be using #AugWritingChallenge to continue my current WIP, an urban fantasy/horror novel with demons, ghosts, and serial killers. 😀 It’s currently at 53k and I’m shooting for between 90 and 120k for the first draft. 😀
What’s up everyone! I am Curt Mercer and my twitter handle is @curt_mercer. I am currently trying to figure out how to write a novel while writing it. There are parts I like and others, not so much. Other than the novel, which is about vampires that do not sparkle or glitter and those tasked with hunting them down, I also write short stories whenever the mood hits me.
Good luck everyone!
Hello! My Twitter handle is @AlaynaMCole. I’m using the #AugWritingChallenge to work on my short story collection (which I’m aiming to have drafted by the end of September–currently at about 28k/50k), any submissions I need to get done this month, and for working on my Master’s proposal (which needs to be in by the end of September also). I’m saving a crime fiction manuscript for NaNoWriMo in November, which is when I’ll be running the #NovWritingChallenge. Good luck with the challenge everyone!
Hi everyone! @samgarman. I’m in the final editing stages for my soon-to-be-released Dandelion Dreams. It’s about two people, their journey through grief, and their journey of finding one another. I’m also working on a WIP, first draft written during the #JulyWritingChallenge, but I’m keeping that one a secret!
Hi all! I’m Valerie Heller — @valhellah on Twitter. Using the #AugWritingChallenge to work on a revised draft of my YA novel-in-progress (first one), and much like Curt M, learning how to do it as I go. It’s a coming-of-age story of a girl who gets so wrapped up in fitting in that she can’t see where she belongs. Wrote first draft largely intuitively and non-linearly (created rough outline part-way through), so I am having to figure out how all the pieces connect and provide smoother bridges and fill in holes as I go. Aiming to get at least the second quarter, if not the whole middle rewritten during this month’s challenge!
